Lien Dhont, shoe technologist at House of Feet, received this patient with hemiplegia due to a CVA a few weeks ago. Disrupted blood flow in part of his brain led to permanent paralysis, with a marked effect on movement patterns.
Many people suffer from foot position problems due to spasticity in paralysis after a stroke. With this gentleman we diagnosed a clear drop foot with varus tilt.
By measuring and manufacturing a custom orthopaedic shoe, the patient walks much less in varus and the dorsiflexion of the foot progresses better when walking.
A high boot was chosen so that the shoe acts as a lever to keep the foot upright during the swing phase and heel landing. Due to a reduced hand function, we opted for laces in combination with a zip.
The orthopaedic shoes have a positive effect on the patient’s gait pattern and mental well-being. For years, therefore, we have had the mission to lower the threshold for wearing orthopaedic shoes. Our extensive catalogue proves that an orthopaedic shoe can be absolutely hip and modern.
