FAQ

WHICH SPECIALISTS CAN PRESCRIBE ORTHOPAEDIC SHOES AND INSOLES?

All specialists in rehabilitation, physical medicine, orthopaedics, traumatology, surgery, rheumatology, neurology, paediatrics and neuropsychiatry.

HOW LONG IS YOUR PRESCRIPTION VALID?

A prescription for orthopaedic shoes or insoles is only valid for 2 months. In the case of a renewal, this is 6 months.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR REQUESTING ORTHOPAEDIC SHOES?

Your patient comes to us with his or her prescription. Based on the condition of the patient, we make a request (13YT) and send it together with the prescription to the insurer to be approved by the medical advisor.

The third party payer rule applies for orthopaedic shoes. This means we take care of everything directly with the insurer. Your patient only has to make a co-payment on delivery of the shoes.

If the patient is having shoes made for the first time, he/she will be called up by the medical advisor of the insurer. On receipt of the approval, we start with production of the shoes.

When renewing orthopaedic shoes, the patient is not called up.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR ORTHOTIC INSOLES?

The third party payer rule applies for orthotic insoles. After the payment of the insoles, the patient receives his or her proof of delivery from us. As long as the patient has a valid prescription, he/she can submit these documents to the insurer for a partial reimbursement of the insoles.

WHAT IS THE DELIVERY PERIOD OF A PAIR OF ORTHOPAEDIC SHOES?

5 weeks after receipt of approval from the insurer..

WHAT IS THE DELIVERY PERIOD FOR A PAIR OF INSOLES?

The standard delivery period for insoles is 5 working days.

HOW MUCH IS THE CO-PAYMENT FOR ORTHOPAEDIC SHOES?

The co-payment for orthopaedic shoes is subdivided into 3 categories (A, B & C). The category is determined based on the condition of the patient. As of 01.01.2020 the co-payment is:

  1. 35,50
  2. 141,86
  3. 177,30
HOW MUCH IS THE REIMBURSEMENT FOR INSOLES?

As of 01.01.2020 the reimbursement for insoles is € 50.04.

WHEN IS MY PATIENT ENTITLED TO ORTHOPAEDIC SHOES AGAIN?

The date of entitlement to a new pair of shoes is calculated based on the delivery date of the previous shoes.

  • Children under the age of 18 are entitled to new orthopaedic shoes every 9 months.
  •  Adults between the age of 18 and 65 are entitled every year.
  •  People over 65 are entitled every year if they come under category A. If they come under category B or C, they are only entitled to new shoes every 2 years.
WHEN IS MY PATIENT ENTITLED TO INSOLES AGAIN?

Children under 18 are entitled to new insoles every year. Adults are entitled to a new pair of insoles every 2 years.

Note! People are only entitled to both orthopaedic shoes and insoles the first time. After this a choice must be made between shoes or insoles.

A patient who has orthopaedic shoes made is only entitled to new insoles once the renewal period of the shoes has expired.

If the patient chooses to have insoles made, he/she is only entitled to new shoes when the renewal period of the shoes has expired – after 1 year for children or 2 years for adults.

WHAT ARE SEMI-ORTHOPAEDIC SHOES?

Semi-orthopaedic shoes are more spacious and wider than normal shoes. They have a removable insole so that custom-made insoles fit perfectly in the shoes.

Semi-orthopaedic shoes are generally made of elastic materials which relieves the pressure on the toes. The inner shoe is also seamless to minimise friction points.

DThese shoes are extremely suitable for diabetic patients with an increased risk of foot wounds or patients suffering from arthritis.

Diabetic patients with a prescription from the specialist are entitled to a reimbursement from the healthcare insurer of € 144.08 (date 01/01/2020). Children are entitled to two pairs of diabetic shoes per year. Adults to one pair per year.
